HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

The Sallisaw Black Diamonds were dealt a crushing loss Thursday in the Arkansas River Shootout Tournament, falling to the Roland Rangers, 88-56.

From the opening tip-off, it was clear that the Black Diamonds were in for a tough match, as the Rangers jumped out to a 30-14 lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Black Diamonds (6-5) were unable to slow down the Rangers (9-1) in the second frame, with the Rangers matching the 17 points the Black Diamonds scored enroute to a 52-31 score by halftime.

In the second half, the Black Diamonds were not able to mount any comeback effort, as the Rangers continued to dominate on both ends of the court, adding 22 points to Sallisaw’s 12 to extend their already comfortable lead.

The Rangers’ young phenom, Davhon Hall, was unstoppable on the court, scoring a game-high 41 points, and showing why he is considered one of the top players in the league. Sallisaw’s Jackson Obregon put up a valiant effort, scoring a team-high 23 points.

The loss was a tough one for the Black Diamonds, who were outmatched by a superior Roland team. The game was never in doubt, as the Rangers were getting rebounds, making shots and controlling the pace of the game from beginning to end, leaving the Black Diamonds behind.
