Gans boys, girls lose in county tournament
The Class B Gans Lady Grizzlies were dealt a crushing loss last week in the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Area Classic, falling to the Class 2A Central Sallisaw Lady Tigers, 48-11.

The Class B Gans Lady Grizzlies were dealt a crushing loss last week in the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Area Classic, falling to the Class 2A Central Sallisaw Lady Tigers, 48-11.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear that the Lady Grizzlies (3-7) were in for a tough match, as the Central crew pulled ahead by 11 points in the first quarter. The Lady Grizzlies struggled to keep up with the Lady Tigers’ offense in the second frame, allowing 17 points while only scoring two of their own. By halftime, the Lady Grizzlies found themselves down by a 30-4 count.
The second half proved to be more of the same, as the Lady Grizzlies struggled to mount any comeback effort. The Lady Tigers (4-5) were able to add 12 points in the third quarter compared to five by the Lady Grizzlies, making it a 42-9 gap going into the final frame.
Despite the large deficit, the Lady Grizzlies kept fighting until the final buzzer. However, Central added six points to Gans’ two in the final quarter for the 48-11 final.
Central’s Cambree Bair had a gamehigh 12 points.

The Class B Gan Grizzlies basketball team were dealt a devastating loss last week in the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Area Classic, falling to the Class 3A Stigler Panthers, 73-41.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear that the Grizzlies (2-5) were in for a tough match, as the Stigler crew pulled ahead by six points in the first quarter. The Grizzlies struggled to keep up with the Panthers’ high-powered offense in the second frame, allowing 32 points while only scoring 12 of their own. By halftime, the Grizzlies found themselves on the short end of a 44-18 score.
The second half proved to be more of the same, as the Panthers (4-4) continued to dominate on both ends of the court.
The Panthers added 17 points to the Grizzlies’ 12 in the third quarter, extending their lead to 65-30 going into the final frame.
Despite the large deficit, the Grizzlies never gave up, putting up a valiant effort in the final quarter, scoring 11 points to the Panthers’ 12. But it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback. Stigler’s Cameron Eakle had a game-high 15 points.
