HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

MULDROW – The Lady Diamonds withstood a fourth-quarter challenge Saturday, emerging from the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Area Classic with a 50-47 win overthe Stigler Lady Panthers to bring home the third-place trophy.

Addyson Gream was the points leader for the Lady Diamonds with 18, an effort Hiahni Howard almost matched with her 17 points for the Lady Panther.

The Lady Diamonds started the contest by pulling ahead two points by the end of the first quarter, with Hannah Palmer putting in five of Sallisaw’s 12 points. Stigler was able to get 10 points from four of its starters to keep pace.

In the second stanza, Stigler duplicated its first-quarter effort with another 10 points, but this time the lion’s share of points came from Howard with six. The Lady Diamonds managed to add only seven points, which put them down 2019 at halftime.

Sallisaw outscored Stigler 16-7 in the third quarter for an eight-point lead going into the fourth period at 35-27. Gream scored 10 points and Molly Carver added six more to help take back the lead in the third quarter.

The Lady Panthers’ final tally wasn’t enough to take the day, but the 20 points kept Stigler in the hunt, with Gentry Powell and Howard scoring six points apiece. The Lady Diamonds were outscored by five points in the final frame, but that wasn’t enough to derail their effort. Sallisaw held onto a three-point lead to claim third place, with Allison Grimm and Madison Bolin both making three-pointers, and Gream adding four points as well.

SALLISAW 12 7 16 15 – 50 STIGLER 10 10 7 20 – 47 SALLISAW – Addyson Gream 18, Molly Carver 10, Ellie Martin 8, Allison Grimm 6, Hannah Palmer 3, Madison Bolin 2.
