HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

MULDROW – The Muldrow Bulldogs kept pace with Sallisaw from start to finish Saturday before third place was decided in the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Area Classic. The lead changed hands 12 times on the day, and was tied at 26 at intermission.

By the final buzzer of the edge-of-yourseat game, it was the Bulldogs who were celebrating and the Black Diamonds who were heartbroken in the 52-51 cliffhanger.

Trenden Collins led the way for the Bulldogs with 24 points, while Jackson Obregon led all scorers with 28 for Sallisaw.

Muldrow ended the first period up by a basket, with Collins making half of the team’s 12 points. Obregon did his part for the Black Diamonds in the opening quarter, making six of Sallisaw’s 10 points to keep his team in the game.

The Sallisaw squad made up the difference in the second stanza, putting 16 points on the board, with Obregon making seven of those points with help from Sim Kilpatrick’s three points and two each from Parker Jackson, Braxton Lamb and Cooper Cox to tie the score by halftime. Muldrow fell off the pace just enough to let Sallisaw catch up, with Drew Prewett making five points and Andrew Luttrell getting four points as part of the 14 points the Bulldogs made before going into the locker room.

Collins came out of the half like a man possessed, putting up nine of the Bulldogs’ 14 points in the third quarter. The Black Diamonds got four points from Obregon along with a trey by Broderick Cameron, but still fell back by a bucket going into the last period.

With the game on the line and down by two points, the Black Diamonds were playing till the buzzer with everything they had. Obregon made 11 of Sallisaw’s final 13 points, but without help from anyone except Kilpatrick’s two points, it just wasn’t enough to claim the victory. For the Bulldogs, Collins was at the free throw line making four shots along with a bucket for half of his team’s 12 points, an effort that managed to keep Muldrow a shot ahead when time expired.

MULDROW 12 14 14 12 –52 SALLISAW 10 16 12 13 –51 MULDROW – Trenden Collins 24, Parker Sevenstar 9, Andrew Luttrell 7, Drew Prewett 5, Nick Rhodes 3, Kashan Buhkari 2, Reece Francis 2.

SALLISAW – Jackson Obregon 28, Sim Kilpatrick 8, Parker Jackson 4, Cooper Cox 4, Broderick Cameron 3, Kam Dill 2, Braxton Lamb 2.
