WEBBERS FALLS – The Webbers Falls Warriors were dealt a harsh loss at home Friday in the Arkansas River Shootout Tournament, falling to the Class 2A Wister Wildcats by a final score of 41-21.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear that the Warriors (4-6) were in for a tough battle, as the Wister crew pulled ahead by five points in the first quarter, 12-7. The Warriors struggled to slow down the Wildcats’ offense in the second frame, allowing 14 points while only scoring 3 of their own. At halftime, the Warriors found themselves down 26-10.
The second half proved to be more of the same, as the Warriors struggled to keep pace with the Wildcats. Wister (11-3) registered 11 points to Webbers Falls’ four in the third quarter, extending the lead to 37-14 going into the final frame.
Despite the uphill battle, the Warriors didn’t give up. They put up a valiant effort in the fourth quarter, scoring seven points to Wister’s four, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback. Webbers Falls’ Stryker Chappell put up a team-high six points, but it was Wister’s C.J. Halford who had the game-high honors with 14 points.
This being their first loss of the tournament, the Warriors moved into the consolation bracket, where they won 55-50 against Class B Whitesboro on Saturday.
The loss at home was a tough pill to swallow for the Warriors, who were outmatched by a superior Wister team. While the defeat is undoubtedly disappointing, the Warriors can take solace in the fact that they never gave up and fought until the final buzzer. Hopefully, they can use this experience as motivation to improve and come back stronger in their next game.
