Vian and Webbers Falls girls, Gore boys register wins

Vian hosted Westville in Big 8 Conference play Tuesday night while Gore traveled to Webbers Falls for a pair of Riverside Athletic Conference contests.

Vian girls 48, Westville 42

The Lady Wolverines downed Westville Tuesday night in the conference game after taking a 26-18 lead at the half.

In the first quarter Rayleigh Terrill made two 2-point baskets and Avery Wright registered three points to help Vian (4-7 overall) take a 12-9 lead. Kaleigh Carte scored seven points for the Lady Yellowjackets (1-9).

Maci Smith and Wright recorded four points apiece and Rebel Simon hit a 3-pointer in the second stanza as the Lady Wolverines added five points (14-9) to its advantage. Maddy Kiddy scored six points for Westville, which trailed by eight points at the half.

Vian’s Kiah Richardson and Terrill registered three points each in the third quarter but Carte’s five points helped Westville trim a point (11-10) off the deficit.

Smith (4 points) and Skyelar Locust and Wright (3 apiece) were Vian’s top scorers in the final eight minutes of the contest. Kiddy scored nine of her game-high 19 points as the Lady Yellowjackets outscored Vian 13-12.

Scoring for Vian in the contest were Smith (12 points), Wright (10), Locust (8), Terrill (7), Simon (4) and Kala Gibbins, Richardson (3 each) and Halli Russell (1).

Smith had seven rebounds and nine steals in the game, Locust registered nine boards and four steals, Terrill grabbed six rebounds and Russell recorded four steals.

Kiddy (19 points), Carte (14) and Lexi Masters (5) were Westville’s leading scorers.

Westville boys 58, Vian 43

The Wolverines (5-5 overall) trailed the visiting Yellowjackets (6-4) by four points at the end of the third quarter Tuesday night but Westville added 11 points to its advantage in the final frame to take the conference game.

Vian’s Yonsi Grass hit a pair of 2-point field goals in the opening period while Cale Jacob’s two 3-pointers helped the Yellowjackets go in front 14-10.

The game was tied 27-all at the half after the Wolverines erased the deficit (17-13) in the second frame. Masyn Wright (7 points) knocked down a 3-pointer and K’den Richardson and Diego Ramos added four points apiece for the Wolverines. Jacob led Westville in scoring with four points.

Wright (7 points) made his second 3-pointer in the third stanza but behind the scoring of Ethan Barton (6 points) and Buddy Hammer (5) the Yellowjackets reclaimed the lead (43-39) by outscoring the Wolverines 16-12.

Hammer (7 points) and Jacob (6) recorded 13 of Westville’s 15 fourth-quarter points while Grass and Wright each made a 2-point field goal for the Wolverines.

Wright registered a team-high 18 points in the contest and also scoring for Vian were Ramos and Richardson (8 each), Grass (6), Elijah Stewart (2) and Desean Mays (1).

Westville’s top five scorers were Jacob (19 points), Hammer (17), Evan Singleterry (9), Ethan Barton (6) and Adian Auffet (3).

Webbers Falls girls 60, Gore 24

The Lady Warriors knocked down 10 3-pointers at home Tuesday night in their Riverside Athletic Conference win over the Lady Pirates.

In the opening period Bridgette Baer hit three 3-pointers, Samantha Griffith and Teralynn Colston made two apiece and Anistyn Garner (5 points) also hit a trey to help the Lady Warriors (10-2 overall) take a 26-8 advantage. Lindsey Pierce led the Lady Pirates (1-5) with three points.

Webbers Falls added 12 points (16-4) to its advantage in the second stanza. Baer (5 points) and Griffith each made a 3-pointer and Garner registered four points while Pierce and Andi Summerlin recorded two points apiece for Gore.

Garner (17 points), Baer (16), Griffith (11) and Colston reached double figures in scoring for Webbers Falls in the contest and Abby Pense registered six points.

Scoring for the Lady Pirates were Pierce (7 points), Oaklei Thornton (5), Aspyn Cearley and Summerlin (3 each) and Kennedy Williams, Kailey Mannon and Lilly Wooten (2 apiece). Thornton hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter.

Gore boys 69, Webbers Falls 43

Gore’s Jackson Duke scored a game-high 28 points and the visiting Class A No. 17 Pirates pulled away in the third period on their way to the conference victory over the host Warriors Tuesday night.

In the first stanza Duke (8 points) hit a pair of 3-pointers and Aidan Dickerson went 3-for-4 at the foul line to help the Pirates (6-2 overall) take a 15-9 lead. Jaxon Swearingen made three 2-point field goals for the Warriors (5-7) in the quarter.

Gore’s Noah Cooper (10 points) and Duke (6) each knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the second frame as the Pirates increased their advantage (21-18). Maddux Shelby (9 points) and Swearingen (two 3-pointers and 7 points) were the leading scorers for the Warriors, who trailed 27-18 at the intermission.

Behind the scoring of Duke (10 points) and Journey Shells (6) the Pirates outscored the Warriors 20-6 in the third period. Stryker Chappell recorded four points for Webbers Falls.

In the final eight minutes Cain Cooper (5 points) and Duke (4) registered nine of Gore’s 13 points and Blake Rowe, Caden Dishman and Swearingen (3 points apiece) scored nine of the Warriors’ 10 points.

Trailing Duke in scoring for Gore in the contest were Noah Cooper (16 points), Shells (6), Cain Cooper (5), Tate Brooksher (4), Dickerson and Bryon McDuffie (3 each) and Ben Kirkpatrick and Keigan Reid (2 apiece).

Scoring for Webbers Falls were Swearingen (16 points), Shelby (12), Luke Pierce (5), Chappell (4) and Rowe and Dishman (3 each).
