Gore girls, boys fall on the road at Okay

The Gore girls’ and boys’ basketball teams lost their Riverside Athletic Conference games at Okay Friday night in Wagoner County.

The Gore girls’ and boys’ basketball teams lost their Riverside Athletic Conference games at Okay Friday night in Wagoner County.

OKAY GIRLS 58, GORE 31

The Lady Mustangs improved to 10-5 for the season Friday night with their conference victory over the Lady Pirates (1-6).

In the first frame Gore’s Lindsey Pierce hit a 3-pointer but Okay went in front 12-3.

Pierce made her second 3-pointer of the game in the second stanza and Kima Wells, Oaklei Thornton and Andi Summerlin each hit a 2-point field goal for the Lady Pirates, who trailed 23-11 at the break after Okay added a point (11-10) to its advantage.

In the third quarter Gore’s Emily Daily (8 points) knocked down two 3-pointers, Kennedy Williams added a couple of 2-point shots and Pierce downed her third trey of the contest as the Lady Pirates sliced two points (15-13) off the deficit.

Natalie Casteel (3-pointer) registered Gore’s points in the final period but Okay increased its lead.

Scoring for the Lady Pirates in the game were Pierce (9 points), Daily (8), Williams (5), Casteel (3) and Wells, Thornton and Summerlin (2 each).

OKAY BOYS 68, GORE 43

The Class A fourth-ranked Mustangs prevailed in their conference matchup Friday night against the visiting No. 17 Pirates.

Despite three 3-pointers by Gore’s Jackson Duke the Mustangs took a 16-11 lead in the first period.

Okay led 34-20 at the intermission after adding nine points (18-9) to their advantage in the second quarter. Journey Shells registered five points for the Pirates in the frame.

Shells (6 points) and Aidan Dickerson (4) provided most of Gore’s scoring in the third stanza but the Mustangs outscored the Pirates 19-12.

Noah Cooper of the Pirates went 4-for-6 at the foul line in the final eight minutes as Okay widened its lead.

Duke and Shells tied for team-high scoring honors (13 points apiece) in the game and also registering points for the Pirates were Cooper (8), Dickerson (6), Ben Kirkpatrick (2) and Bryon McDuffie (1).
