Gore man charged for shooting at repo workers

A Gore man is facing a felony charge of feloniously pointing firearm and criminal misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct with firearm and malicious injury to property under $1,000 after allegedly shooting at two people employed with a repo company who were trying to repossess his truck.

Thomas G. Spears, 41, was charged Jan. 3 in Sequoyah County District Court and as of press time, no court dates have been scheduled.

Sequoyah County Sheriff’s deputy Daniel Whitus reported on the evening of Dec. 29, he was called to S. 4445 Road in reference to an individual shooting a firearm at a repo company.

The two employees of the repo company said they went to Spears’ property to repo his vehicle and then Spears allegedly pointed a gun at their heads and fired two rounds–one into the air and one into their tire–as they were trying to repossess the vehicle. The two employees said they tried to reason with Spears but he ordered them off the property and shut the gate behind him. The workers said that’s when they called the Sheriff’s Department.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Spears told authorities when he came outside he saw two guys who he did not know trying to take his truck. Spears said the two men asked him if he was behind on his payments, and Spears told them he was. Spears claimed he never fired the gun at the two men but instead fired a round into the air and then at the truck tire.

Spears also reportedly offered to retrieve the gun from inside the residence, a .22 caliber revolver, which the officer secured in his patrol unit. Spears was then arrested on his charges and transported to the Sequoyah County Detention Center.

District Attorney Jack Thorp said feloniously pointing a firearm is punishable by imprisonment for one to 10 years, if convicted.
