Sequoyah County Fair Board hosts River Valley Pig Gig fundraiser
The Sequoyah County Fair Board hosted their first annual River Valley Pig Gig on Jan. 14, as a fundraiser for the county fairground. The swine show was organized by board members, President Bill Weeden, Avis Jackson, Max Smith Sr., Max Smith Jr., Shawn Matthews, Dale Phelps, Kenndall Thomason and Lee Bennett.

Many thanks go out to a number of local sponsors for making this event a success: Armstrong Bank, Arvest Bank, National Bank of Sallisaw, Firstar Bank, Ideal Storage Sheds, Mark’s Machinery and Eastside Genetics.
Door prizes were donated by Pierce Feeds, Farmer’s Co-Op and Sallisaw FFA, as well as custom designed banners provided by the Sallisaw FCCLA.
4H and FFA exhibitors from all over the county and surrounding areas as far as Ada, to Paragould, Ark., brought a “deep set of hogs,” according to the event’s highly respected judge, Chris Hulfschulte of Miami, Okla.
The River Valley Pig Gig would like to congratulate Grand Champion winner, Millie Kate Foster of Arkansas. Reserve Grand Champion was Molly Buckmaster of Porter. A job well done also goes out to all Breed Champions, Reserve Breed Champions and class winners.
The Sequoyah County Fair Board looks forward to making events, such as this one, possible for livestock exhibitors in the future.
