Sequoyah County Emergency Management has partnered with Nixle to implement its Community Notification System to alert residents in real time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories.
“We are trying to get more folks signed up for our alert system,” says Jonathan Teague, deputy director for the local emergency management office. “We currently have about 1,100 residents signed up, but would love for there to be more.”
Teague says the service is secure, reliable and easy to use for his office.
As a resident of the county, there are two simple ways to register: Text your zip code to 888777 from your mobile phone or go to www.nixle.com to sign up via the resident tab. Once registered, Teague says residents will receive a confirmation text to their mobile device. Residents may also customize their alert settings by going to www.nixle.com and creating a user profile.
All alerts will be targeted geographically, allowing residents to receive localized, relevant alerts from Sequoyah County Emergency Management. Nixle alerts can be sent instantly via text, email, web and the Nixle mobile app.
“We, here at Sequoyah County Emergency Management, are very excited to have this tool at our disposal,” Teague says. “The ability to send out alerts directly to county resident phones will be unmatched in practicality and versatility. These alerts will include weather and other emergencies approaching and in the county.”
