Host Roland downs Muldrow twice in NOAA action

Roland defeated Muldrow twice in Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association action Tuesday night inside the Ranger Dome.

Roland defeated Muldrow twice in Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association action Tuesday night inside the Ranger Dome.

ROLAND GIRLS 46, MULDROW 33

The third time and a home-court advantage proved to be charms for the Class 3A No. 15 Lady Rangers (8-5 overall) Tuesday night inside the Ranger Dome as Roland topped 4A ninth-ranked Muldrow (11-2) in the final meeting of the season between the two rivals.

Roland, which lost its two previous meeting to the Lady Bulldogs at Muldrow (51-46 on Dec. 2 and 45-31 on Jan. 7 in the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Area Classic final), led 8-5 at the end of the opening period Tuesday. The Lady Rangers’ Addison Cole, who scored a game-high 24 points in the contest, recorded four points in the quarter and Kennedi Wight scored all of Muldrow’s points.

Wight totaled four points in the second frame to help the Lady Bulldogs trim a point (6-5) off the deficit. Cole (5 points) hit a 3-pointer for Roland, which led 1311 at the intermission.

The Lady Rangers outscored Muldrow 21-9 in the decisive third stanza. Cole made four 2-point baskets, Haven Freeman registered seven points and Kynlei Earnhart knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for Roland while Carmen Fields led the Lady Bulldogs with four points on two 2-point field goals.

Behind the scoring of Mason Anstine, Cailey Grinstead and Claire Tabor (4 points apiece) Muldrow trimmed a point (13-12) off the final deficit in the fourth period. Cole’s seven points led the Lady Rangers in scoring in the final eight minutes.

Trailing Cole in scoring for Roland were Freeman (10 points), Earnhart (6), Jazlynn Tehee (4) and Lilly Medicine Bird (2).

Scoring for Muldrow were Wight (12 points), Grinstead and Tabor (6 each), Carmen Fields and Anstine (4 apiece) and Jensi Fields (1).

ROLAND BOYS 65, MULDROW 38

The Class 3A fifth-ranked Rangers (12-1 overall) outscored the visiting 4A Bulldogs (9-4) 33-12 in the first half Tuesday night on their way to their eighth straight win of the season.

Behind the scoring of Carson Wiggins (7 points), Peyton Whisenant (4) and Kyeree Hall (3) the Rangers grabbed a 14-7 lead in the opening period. Trenden Collins registered five points for the Bulldogs in the quarter.

In the second frame Wiggins (7 points), Davohn Hall (5) and Raesean Perryman each hit a 3-pointer to help Roland increase its advantage (19-5) and Muldrow’s Nick Rhodes also made a 3-pointer.

Kyeree Hall totaled 15 of his team-high 18 points in the third stanza and Davohn Hall added a pair of 3-pointers as the Rangers outscored the Bulldogs 23-13. Collins recorded seven of his game-high 20 points and Parker Sevenstar hit a pair of 2-point field goals for Muldrow.

The Bulldogs trimmed four points (13-9) off the final deficit in the fourth quarter and Collins (8 points) and Rhodes (3-pointer) provided most of Muldrow’s scoring in the period. Trailing Kyeree Hall in scoring for Roland in the game were Wiggins (15 points), Davohn Hall (13), Whisenant (6), Perryman (5), Buck Triplett (4) and Desean Cruse and Ashton Peters (2 each).

Rhodes and Sevenstar (6 points apiece) and Drew Prewett, Jaxson Anstine and Reece Francis (2 each) trailed Collins in scoring for Muldrow.
