Vian Public School was locked down on Thursday as a precaution after an individual made a “concerning post” on his social media page.
Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane Jr. said Hunter Craghead, 27, who has addresses in both Vian and Fort Smith, was taken into custody by authorities in Fort Smith around 1:50 p.m. on Thursday.
“There were no specific threats to do anything at Vian Schools, but we are trying locate an individual from Fort Smith that posted on social media yesterday and today about coming to the ‘Big V’ (referring to Vian),” the Sheriff’s Department posted on its Facebook page Thursday.
The post went on to say that sheriff’s deputies were headed to assist Vian police at that time, and would post more information as it became available.
“As an abundance of caution, law enforcement has placed our campus on lockdown,” Vian Public Schools posted to its Facebook page. “All students and staff are safe, but we have no other information to share at this time.”
As of late Thursday, it was unknown if Craghead would be charged, but according to Sequoyah County District Court records, Craghead has a criminal misdemeanor warrant for his arrest, which was issued in May 2022.
