Lady Rangers win consolation crown at Old Fort Classic

The Class 3A No. 15 Lady Rangers (10-6 overall) won the consolation championship at Fort Gibson’s Old Fort Classic Saturday afternoon with a decisive 66-23 victory over Class A Okay (11-7).

The Class 3A No. 15 Lady Rangers (10-6 overall) won the consolation championship at Fort Gibson’s Old Fort Classic Saturday afternoon with a decisive 66-23 victory over Class A Okay (11-7).

ROLAND 66, OKAY 23 (SATURDAY) The Lady Rangers outscored the Lady Mustangs 23-4 in the opening period before adding to their advantage in each of the final three quarters of Saturday’s Old Fort Classic consolation championship game.

In the first stanza Roland’s Addison Cole (9 points) and Haven Freeman (8) hit a 3-pointer apiece and Lilly Medicine Bird (6) made three 2-point baskets.

Cole connected on two more 3’s and registered eight of her game-high 20 points in the second period, Medicine Bird scored seven and Kynlei Earnhart made a 3-pointer for the Lady Rangers.

Freeman, Cole and Earnhart recorded three points apiece for Roland in the third quarter and in the final frame Riscay Campbell and Madison Jetton led the Lady Rangers in scoring with six and three points, respectively.

Trailing Cole in scoring for Roland in the game were Freeman (13 points), Medicine Bird (11), Earnhart and Campbell (6 each), Jetton and Julianna Trujillo (3 apiece) and Brooklyn Hallbauer and Brooklyn Decker (2 each).

ROLAND 77, NATHAN HALE 18 (FRIDAY) Roland registered at least 20 points in each of the first three periods Friday morning to beat Nathan Hale and advance to the consolation title contest.

In the first eight minutes Haven Freeman (11 points) hit three 3-pointers and Kynlei Earnhart (6) added two treys as the Lady Rangers went in front 20-2.

Lilly Medicine Bird and Freeman each made four 2-point field goals in the second stanza as Roland increased its advantage (20-8).

Addison Cole (6 points) and Jazlynn Tehee (4) were the Lady Rangers’ top scorers in the third quarter and Julianna Trujillo recorded six points in the fourth frame for Roland.

Scoring for Roland in the contest were Freeman (21 points), Medicine Bird (11), Earnhart (9), Cole and Trujillo (8 each), Tehee (6) and Madison Jetton, Brooklyn Hallbauer, Brooklyn Decker and Laikyn

Conaway (3 apiece).

Coweta 39, Roland 33 (Thursday) Haven Freeman’s two free throws almost midway through the final period gave the Class 3A No. 15 Lady Rangers (9-6) a 33-32 lead but 5A No. 17 Coweta (7-6) scored the final seven points of the contest to register the win in the opening round of the tournament Thursday afternoon.

In the first stanza Kynlei Earnhart’s corner 3-pointer gave Roland its first lead (5-2) of the game with 5:22 remaining. Lilly Medicine Bird’s inside basket and Madison Jetton’s 3-pointer later in the quarter helped the Lady Rangers take a 10-7 advantage.

Coweta led 22-19 at the half after erasing the deficit (15-9) in the second frame. Earnhart (two 3-pointers) and Freeman (3 points) scored for Roland while Macee Matthews (10 points) and Cooper Hilton (3-pointer) were Coweta’s top scorers.

The Lady Rangers trimmed a point (98) off the deficit in the third quarter. Hilton started the third with a 3-pointer from the top of the key before Roland registered nine unanswered points on Addison Cole’s wing 2-pointer and Freeman’s pair of inside baskets and 3-pointer from the wing to lead 28-25. Moments later Coweta reclaimed the advantage (30-28) following Matthews’ 3-pointer and inside jumper with 32 seconds remaining.

After Freeman’s foul shots Matthew’s traditional three-point play with 3:03 to go put Coweta in front for good. The Lady Tigers outscored Roland 9-5 in the fourth.

Freeman (12 points), Earnhart (9), Jetton (6), Cole (4) and Medicine Bird (2) scored for Roland in the contest.

Scoring for Coweta were Matthews (25 points), Hilton (8), Tayen Allen (4) and Kaleigh Winkle (2).
