Vian girls, boys lose consolation games at Kellyville tourney

Vian’s high school basketball teams lost their consolation contests in the Kellyville Tournament Saturday.

Vian’s high school basketball teams lost their consolation contests in the Kellyville Tournament Saturday.

KELLYVILLE GIRLS 41, VIAN 22 (SATURDAY) The Lady Wolverines couldn’t overcome sluggish first and third periods in Saturday’s consolation contest as Kellyville went on to register the win.

Kellyville led 13-5 after the first eight minutes but Vian trimmed three points (96) off the deficit in the second stanza.

The Lady Ponies outscored the Lady Wolverines 14-3 in the third quarter.

Scoring for Vian in the contest were Avery Wright (9 points), Skyelar Locust, Rebel Simon and Kiah Richardson (3 each), Kalli Kennedy (2) and Maci Smith and Rayleigh Terrill (1 apiece). Ripley defeated the Lady Wolverines 58-29 in a tournament consolation semifinal game Friday and Vian started tournament play Thursday with an 82 24 loss to top-seeded Bethel.

RIPLEY BOYS 48, VIAN 46 OT (SATURDAY)

The Wolverines overcame a 16-point deficit at the intermission by outscoring Ripley 27-11 in the second half Saturday but the Warriors won the consolation contest with an 8-6 advantage in the extra frame.

Scoring for the Wolverines in the contest were Masyn Wright (20 points), Diego Ramos (9), K’den Richardson (8), Desean Mays (7) and Trace Sanders (2).

On Friday Adair downed the Wolverines 57-47 in a tournament consolation semifinal contest and Vian began tournament action Thursday with a 67-56 loss to Colcord.
