MULDROW HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL

The Webbers Falls Warriors squeaked past the Dewar Dragons to register a big upset at home Friday, winning by a lone point in a classic come-frombehind victory that ended 38-37.

WEBBERS FALLS 38, DEWAR 37 The Dragons bowed to the Warriors’ defense, which played a clean game, giving up four points from the foul line, while the game’s offensive leader, Strycker Chappell, poured through 20 points for Webbers Falls.

Chappell set the pace early, and foretold the game’s energy by making seven points in the first quarter, helping the Warriors (7-8) jump out to a 13-9 lead over the Dragons.

Dewar (13-4) answered in the second stanza, outdistancing the Warriors by five points in the quarter to take a 22-21 lead at intermission.

In the third period, Dewar kept up the pace and outscored Webbers Falls 9-7, taking a three point lead, going into the final frame 31-28.

The Warriors’ defensive effort, despite trailing most of the fourth frame, came together to keep the clock running and denied Dewar any opportunities from the charity stripe. Trailing by two points as the final seconds counted down, Jaxon Swearingen managed to get free for the game-winning threepointer as the final buzzer sounded. Top scorers for Dewar were Ishmel Stewart and Tryton Mack, with 13 and nine points, respectively.

KINTA – Webbers Falls’ Class A Warriors went on the road Thursday to play the sixth-ranked Class B Kinta Eagles, a one-sided contest the hosts won, 50-22.

The Warriors’ offense couldn’t get engaged against the Eagles, trailing by 10 points at intermission.

During the second half, it was more of the same, with the Eagles outscored the Warriors 30-12 for the final margin.
