Sallisaw’s Wissman finishes first at Paul Post Tournament

Sallisaw’s Emma Wissman was the top county finisher at the recent Paul Post Tournament, which was held last Friday and Saturday inside Sallisaw High School’s Paul Post Fieldhouse.

Sallisaw’s Emma Wissman was the top county finisher at the recent Paul Post Tournament, which was held last Friday and Saturday inside Sallisaw High School’s Paul Post Fieldhouse.

Vian’s Taya Hunt, Avery Richey and Carissa Prock and Sallisaw’s Hannah Lightfoot placed second in the girls’ division and Sallisaw’s Noah Flores finished second in the boys’ division.

Wissman (22-1), a senior, won by fall (4:47) over Poteau’s Ashley Johnson (20-2, jr.) in the girls’ 100-pound title match.

Hunt (19-2), also a senior, lost by fall (5:27) to Fayetteville’s Katie Palmer (29-2, sr.) in the girls’ 140-pound title match.

In the girls’ 135-pound championship match Richey (15-3), a junior, lost by fall (1:12) to Heritage’s Malia Kehne (306, sr.).

Lightfoot (18-7), a junior, lost by fall (3:47) to Perry’s Alyson Sykes (24-14, jr.) in the girls’ 190-pound title match.

Prock (12-9), a freshman, lost by fall (1:53) to Grove’s Kaybrie Sharp (15 5, jr.) in the girls’ 125-pound championship match.

Flores (22-8), a junior, lost by decision (6-2) to Pryor’s Noah Cowan (20-5, jr.) in the boys’ 215-pound title match.

In the girls’ team standings Vian placed ninth (61 points) and Sallisaw was 10th (53.5). Rogers, Ark., won the tournament with 153 points.

In the boys’ team standings Sallisaw finished 10th (106 points) and Vian was 16th (59). Marlow claimed the boys’ title with 261.5 points.
