Tigers beat Gans for 3rd place at Porum tournament

PORUM – Despite game-high scoring honors by Logan Weese with 23 points, the Gans Grizzlies could not hold off the Central Tigers in Saturday’s thirdplace game of the Cross Telephone Invitational Tournament, finishing on the short end of a 59-43 score.

PORUM – Despite game-high scoring honors by Logan Weese with 23 points, the Gans Grizzlies could not hold off the Central Tigers in Saturday’s thirdplace game of the Cross Telephone Invitational Tournament, finishing on the short end of a 59-43 score.

The Grizzlies (3-9) owned a 1711 advantage by the end of the first quarter, with Weese contributing nine of those points.

But Gans’ strong start could not be duplicated during the final three periods, as Central (4-9) raced to a 2521 lead by halftime.

In the third stanza, the Tigers controlled the tempo and widened their lead for a 41-30 margin heading into the final frame. Weese was joined in double figures by Marc Tipton with 11. Central was paced by Isaac Rogers with 10 points and Connor Walters with nine.

QUINTON 44, CENTRAL 37

PORUM – Central held its own through three quarters in opening action of the Cross Telephone Invitational Tournament, but the Quinton Savages rallied down the stretch to claim a 44-37 win and send the Tigers into consolation play.

The Tigers and Savages scored four points apiece in the first quarter and 11 each in the second stanza for a 15-15 deadlock by halftime.

Central managed a razor-thin lead by the end of the third period, 26-25, but Quinton found its second wind in the fourth frame to claim the 44-37 decision.
