Gore splits home games against Panama Saturday

The Gore girls’ and boys’ high school basketball teams split a doubleheader against Panama Saturday night inside the Gore Event Center and on Friday the county teams registered a pair victories at Dewar.

The Gore girls’ and boys’ high school basketball teams split a doubleheader against Panama Saturday night inside the Gore Event Center and on Friday the county teams registered a pair victories at Dewar.

Panama girls 48, Gore 30 (Saturday) After being tied 16-all at the intermission Class 2A Panama (11-8 overall) outscored the Class A Lady Pirates (5-9) 32-14 in the second half of Saturday’s home game to end their threegame winning streak.

The Lady Razorbacks led 11-4 at the end of the opening quarter before Gore erased (12-5) the deficit in the second stanza.

Scoring for the Lady Pirates in the contest were Lindsey Pierce (8 points), Andi Summerlin (6), Rayleigh Moore (5), Aspyn Cearley (4), Natalie Casteel (3) and Oaklei Thornton and Kennedy Williams (2 each).

Gore boys 44, Panama 39 (Saturday) The Pirates overcame an 18-16 halftime deficit by outscoring the visiting Razorbacks (9-9 overall) 12-5 in the third period Saturday night at home as Gore improved to 12-3 for the season with its sixth-straight win.

Each team registered seven points in the first eight minutes but Panama led by two at the intermission after outscoring Gore 11-9 in the second quarter.

After the Pirates erased the deficit in the third frame both teams recorded 16 points in the fourth period.

Scoring for Gore in the contest were Ben Kirkpatrick (13 points), Noah Cooper (11), Jackson Duke (7), Keigan Reid (6), Journey Shells (4) and Aidan Dickerson (3).

Gore girls 54, Dewar 48 (Friday)

G o r e ’ s L i n d s e y P i e r c e registered s e v e n of her teamh i g h 1 8 points in the fourth stanza Friday as the Lady Pirates (5-8 overall) outscored Dewar (117) 17-12 to claim their thirdconsecutive victory.

Oaklei Thornton and Pierce each hit a 3-pointer in the opening frame to help Gore go in front 14-10.

Gore’s Emily Daily made a 3-pointer in the second period but the Lady Dragons erased (15-11) the deficit and the score was tied 25-all at the break.

In the third quarter Pierce (8 points) knocked down four 2-pointers as each team recorded 11 points.

Pierce and Aspyn Cearley each hit a pair of 2-point field goals in the final eight minutes and Pierce went 3-for-4 at the foul line.

Trailing Pierce in scoring for Gore were Natalie Casteel and Kennedy Williams (6 points each), Daily (5), Kima Wells, Cearley and Andi Summerlin (4 apiece) and Oaklei Thornton and Rayleigh Moore (3 each).

Gore boys 39, Dewar 38 (Friday)

The Pirates (11-3 overall) edged the Dragons (13-5) Friday night in Okmulgee County while registering their fifth consecutive win.

Ben Kirkpatrick and Jackson Duke scored four and three points, respectively, in the first period to help the Pirates build an 11-8 advantage.

Gore led 24-22 at the intermission after the Dragons trimmed a point (14-13) off the deficit in the second quarter. Duke (6 points), Aidan Dickerson (4) and Tate Brooksher (3-pointer) provided the scoring for the Pirates in the period.

Brooksher knocked down his second 3-pointer of the contest in the third stanza but Dewar sliced another point (87) off the deficit to trail 31-30 entering the fourth frame.

Each team recorded eight points in the final eight minutes and Noah Cooper ( 3 points) and Cain Cooper ( 3- pointer) were Gore’s top scorers in the quarter.

Scoring for the Pirates in the game were Duke ( 9 points), Noah Cooper ( 7), Dickerson and Brooksher ( 6 each), Kirkpatrick and Reid ( 4 apiece) and Cain Cooper ( 3).
