Sallisaw falls to Stigler in non-conference action

Sallisaw’s high school basketball teams fell to Stigler in non-conference action Friday night inside SHS’s Paul Post Fieldhouse.

Sallisaw’s high school basketball teams fell to Stigler in non-conference action Friday night inside SHS’s Paul Post Fieldhouse.

Stigler girls 45, Sallisaw 36 After trailing by double digits at the half Friday night the Lady Diamonds (11-5 overall) trimmed eight points off the deficit in the third period before the visiting Lady Panthers (7-7) increased their lead in the final eight minutes.

Stigler led 11-2 at the end of the opening quarter and Kayli Macon (2-point field goal) scored Sallisaw’s points.

In the second frame the Lady Diamonds’ Molly Carver and Allison Grimm (4 points apiece) each hit a 3-pointer but Stigler added two points (12-10) to its advantage to lead 23-12 at the intermission.

Ellie Martin registered 11 of her game-high 15 points in the third stanza to help Sallisaw outscore the Lady Panthers 146. Martin made three 2-point baskets, a pair of foul shots and a 3-pointer and Hannah Palmer also knocked down a trey for Sallisaw, which went to the fourth trailing 29-26.

Martin and Carver (3-pointer) recorded four and three points, respectively, for the Lady Diamonds in the fourth period but Stigler added eight points (16-10) to its advantage.

Trailing Martin in scoring for Sallisaw in the contest were Carver (7 points), Macon and Palmer (5 each) and Grimm (4).

Scoring for Stigler w e r e Hiahni Howard (14 points), Madi Jones (10), Jordan Johnson (9), Ashton Hollie (5), Kahrma Warren (4), Jade Maxwell (2) and Gentry Powell (1).

The Black Diamonds’ fourthquarter rally fell short Friday night at home as the Panthers (9-8 overall) downed Sallisaw (79) in the non-conference contest.

Broderick Cameron hit a 3-pointer and registered five of Sallisaw’s points in the first stanza but the Panthers went in front 14-11.

Stigler led 29-23 at the break after outscoring the Black Diamonds 15-12 in the second period. Cameron (5 points) and Sim Kilpatrick (3) each made a 3-pointer for Sallisaw in the quarter.

Kilpatrick and Cooper Cox recorded four and three points, respectively, in the third frame for Sallisaw but the Panthers took a double-digit lead (4532) to the final stanza after increasing their advantage (16–9).

In the final eight minutes Kilpatrick knocked down two 3-pointers while scoring 10 of his game-high 19 points, Parker Jackson also hit a pair of treys and Cameron registered three points as the Black Diamonds trimmed five points (22-17) off the deficit.

Trailing Kilpatrick in scoring for Sallisaw in the game were Cameron (13 points), Jackson (8), Jackson Obregon (5), Cox (4), Kam Dill (3) and Max Stump (2).

Scoring for the Panthers were Jackson McCarter (15 points), Jamarion Warren and Hunter Self (13 each), McKade Peery (10), Jayden Gould (8) and Will Rose (3).
