Vian girls top Henryetta in homecoming game

Vian’s high school basketball teams split their homecoming games against Henryetta Saturday night and their Big 8 Conference contests at Oktaha Friday.

Wolverines upend No. 5 Oktaha Friday

Vian’s high school basketball teams split their homecoming games against Henryetta Saturday night and their Big 8 Conference contests at Oktaha Friday.

Vian girls 49, Henryetta 39 (Saturday)

Vian’s Maci Smith scored 13 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth period Saturday night to help the Lady Wolverines (5–12 overall) overcome a thirdquarter deficit and defeat Henryetta (2-8).

In the first eight minutes Vian’s Rebel Simon (7 points) and Smith (3) each hit a 3-pointer but the Lady Knights took a 14-13 lead.

The Lady Wolverines led 2723 at the break after outscoring the visitors 14-9 in the second stanza and Vian’s Avery Wright and Kiah Richardson recorded four points apiece.

In the third period Henryetta erased the deficit by outscoring the Lady Wolverines 9-4 and the Lady Knights took a 32-31 lead to the fourth.

Smith made 7-of-8 free throws and hit three 2-point baskets in the final quarter as Vian deleted (18-7) the deficit to claim the win.

Trailing Smith in scoring for Vian in the contest were Simon (11 points), Wright (9), Skyelar Locust (7), Richardson (4) and Kala Gibbins (2).

Locust finished the game with nine rebounds and four steals and Wright and Simon registered four steals apiece.

Henryetta’s McKayla Greenhaw led all scorers 26 points.

Henryetta boys 55, Vian 48 (Saturday)

Vian’s Masyn Wright and Desean Mays scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, Saturday night in the evening’s first game but the Knights ( 1 1 – 7 overall) registered the n o n conference win over the Wolverines (7-7).

Oktaha girls 64, Vian 31 (Friday)

The Class 3A No. 9 Lady Tigers (15-4) led 19-7 at the end of the opening quarter Friday night in Muskogee County on their way to the Big 8 Conference victory over the Lady Wolverines (4-12).

Kiah Richardson scored a team-high 10 points in the game and also recording points for the Lady Wolverines were Annie Neal (6), Maci Smith (5), Skyelar Locust and Avery Wright (3 each) and Rebel Simon and Rayleigh Terrill (2 apiece).

Vian’s leading rebounders were Locust (8), Simon and Terrill (7 each) and Wright blocked three shots in the contest.

Vian boys 61, Oktaha 43 (Friday)

Masyn Wright and K’den Richardson scored a combined 34 points Friday night on the road Friday night as the Wolverines (7-6) downed the Class 3A No. 5 Tigers (15-4) in Big 8 Conference action.

Wright totaled 18 points in the contest and Richardson registered 16.
