Sequoyah County Commissioners took action Monday to approve an agreement between District 2 and the Cherokee Nation regarding “pre-payment” funding for the Indian Road/ Hubler Hollow Culvert Replacement Project.
District 2 and Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Beau Burlison said bids for the project will be opened by commissioners on Feb. 13. He estimated the county will need at least $500,000 more in additional help to complete the project but would know more when the bids are opened.
The entire project includes repairing four locations damaged last year from heavy rainfall and flooding. Two locations in Sequoyah County and two in Cherokee County were damaged which forced closing of the road until repairs could be made.
Repairs will include replacing the culvert and putting in new guard rails. Cherokee Nation officials have stated the entire cost of the project will be nearly $2 million.
District 2 also received approval of transfer of appropriations to purchase a street sweeper at a cost of $21,000, according to Burlison.
In other business, the commissioners approved a “Hold Harmless” agreement by and between Sequoyah County and McLeod USA Telecommunications, also for District 2.
Approved also was a transfer and purchase of a 2008 F350 Crew Cab Brush Truck from Liberty Fire Department to Nicut Fire Department at a cost of $21,000.
