Rangers win at Sequoyah Tahlequah Saturday

The Class 3A fourth-ranked Roland boys won at Sequoyah Tahlequah Saturday night after beating Checotah Friday night at home while the Lady Rangers fell to the Lady Indians following their victory inside the Ranger Dome.

Roland sweeps Checotah in NOAA play Friday

The Class 3A fourth-ranked Roland boys won at Sequoyah Tahlequah Saturday night after beating Checotah Friday night at home while the Lady Rangers fell to the Lady Indians following their victory inside the Ranger Dome.

ROLAND BOYS 82, SEQUOYAH 50 Five Roland (17-2 overall) players scored in double figures Saturday night in Cherokee County as the Rangers broke open the game in the second stanza on their way to the nonconference win over the Indians (5-14).

In the first period Roland went in front 24-17 and Ashton Peters (7 points), Davohn Hall (5), Kyeree Hall, Peyton Whisenant and Carson Wiggins (4 each) registered Roland’s points.

The Rangers led 45-24 at the half after increasing their advantage (21-7) in the second quarter. Davohn Hall (8 points and Peters (3) each made their second 3-pointer of the contest and Whisenant added a pair of 2-point field goals.

Kyeree Hall recorded nine of his game-high 17 points in the third frame to help Roland outscore Sequoyah 19-15 and in the final eight minutes the Rangers added seven points (1811) to their lead.

Trailing Kyeree Hall in scoring for Roland in the contest were Davohn Hall (14 points), Whisenant, Peters and Wiggins (10 apiece), Paul Johnson (6), Raesean Perryman (5), Desean Cruse and Kejuan Youngblood (4 each) and Mason Kemp (2).

Kellan Holmes led Sequoyah in scoring with 14 points.

SEQUOYAH GIRLS 45, ROLAND 19 Class 3A No. 14 Sequoyah (11–8 overall) downed the No. 17 Lady Rangers (11-8) in their nonconference game Saturday night in Tahlequah.

In the opening period Roland’s Lilly Medicine Bird totaled five points but the Lady Indians grabbed a 9-7 lead.

The Lady Rangers trailed 17-7 at the break after being outscored 8-0 in the second stanza.

Addison Cole registered four of Roland’s five points in the third quarter as Sequoyah increased (12-5) its advantage.

Haven Freeman’s three points in the final frame came at the foul line and the Lady Indians widened (16-7) their lead.

Scoring for Roland in the contest were Medicine Bird (7 points), Cole (6), Freeman (4) and Jazlynn Tehee (2).

ROLAND GIRLS 41, CHECOTAH 31 The Lady Rangers (11-7 overall) edged Checotah (5-10) inside the Ranger Dome Friday night in the Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association (NOAA) contest.

The Lady Rangers led 9-8 after the first eight minutes and Roland’s Haven Freeman and Lilly Medicine Bird recorded four and three points, respectively, while Aiyanna Brewer scored four points for the Lady Wildcats.

Inside baskets by Addison Cole and Julianna Trujillo, Jazlynn Tehee’s 2-pointer from the wing and Trujillo’s pair of foul shots fueled Roland’s 8-0 run at the start of second stanza. Laikyn Conaway (3-pointer) and Freeman registered three points apiece for the Lady Rangers and Hailey Prince scored six points for Checotah, which trailed 2518 at the intermission.

Cole (5 points) hit a 3-pointer in the third period and Medicine Bird added three points as the Lady Rangers increased (10-4) their lead (35-22).

Tehee made a 3-pointer in the fourth frame but the Lady Wildcats trimmed three points (9-6) off the deficit. Brewer recorded six of her game-high 15 points in the fourth.

Scoring for Roland in the contest were Freeman (11 points), Cole (10), Medicine Bird (7), Tehee (5), Trujillo (4), Conaway (3) and Brooklyn Hallbauer (1).

Trailing Brewer in scoring for Checotah were Prince (9 points), Sage Jones, Ruby Folkner and Sydney Hamilton (2 each) and JaiCee Lester (1).

ROLAND BOYS 86, CHECOTAH 32 The Rangers (16-2 overall) led 20-3 after the first eight minutes of Friday’s NOAA contest as Roland went on to register the convincing victory over the visiting Wildcats (7-11).

The Rangers led 20-3 at the end of the opening period after scoring the first 12 points of the contest. The Wildcats recorded their first basket with 1:36 left in the opening period and registering the Rangers’ points were Davohn Hall (9 points), Peyton Whisenant and Kyeree Hal (4 each) and Carson Wiggins (3).

Behind the scoring of Ashton Peters (9 points), Wiggins (7), Whisenant (6), Kyeree Hall (5), Desean Cruse (4) and Paul Johnson (3) Roland added (35-12) to its advantage in the second quarter.

The Rangers added to their lead in the third (21-10) and fourth (10-6) frames.

Scoring for Roland in the contest were Davohn Hall (15 points), Wiggins (13), Whisenant (12), Kyeree Hall and Ashton Peters (11 each), Raesean Perryman (7), Cruse (6), Johnson (5), Kejuan Youngblood and Tyson Williams (2 apiece) and Buck Triplett and Jalen Armer (1 each).
