Gonzalez charged after driving through house

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

Johnnathan J. Gonzalez, 32, of Muldrow, was charged Jan. 18 in Sequoyah County District Court with malicious injury to property over $1,000, leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia after he reportedly drove through a house on Delaware Street in Sallisaw.

He was denied bond and is scheduled for a March 1 felony disposition docket before Associate District Judge Kyle Waters.

Sallisaw Police officer Devin Harriman reported on the afternoon of Jan. 14 he was patrolling the area of Delaware St. and the old golf course when a white 4-door car passed him. The officer recognized the driver as Gonzalez, who reportedly had multiple warrants for his arrest out of Sequoyah County.

The officer reported when he turned around to confirm the driver as Gonzalez, the car sped up and he was unable to locate it, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Moments later, dispatch received a call that a car matching the description as the one Harriman had attempted to stop had ran through a home on Delaware St. Harriman drove to the location believing it was the car that Gonzalez was driving.

The reporting party told Harriman the car drove through the house and then behind the neighbor’s house before leaving the scene in an unknown direction.

The neighbor said the car also drove through his yard but he had no idea who the driver was. However, when confronted by the officer, the neighbor admitted the driver was Gonzalez, according to the affidavit. The neighbor told police when he saw what Gonzales had done he told him to leave, even when Gonzalez asked for help.

Dispatch said another reporting party had located the suspect on S. Mulberry. Gonzalez had reportedly parked the car under a carport of a vacant home and was heading north on foot. The officer caught up with him on the roadway where he allegedly saw Gonzales throwing items from his pockets. He was taken into custody and transported to the Sallisaw Police Department where he was booked in on his charges.

After searching the area where Gonzales reportedly emptied his pockets, Harriman reported finding keys and a baggie with a crystal substance inside. A used syringe was also later discovered inside the vehicle, according to the affidavit.

It was later confirmed Gonzalez had multiple confirmed misdemeanor and felony warrants out of Sequoyah County, and a warrant out of Muskogee County for second degree burglary.
