Lady Bulldogs top Stilwell in key NOAA contest

The Class 4A No. 11 Lady Bulldogs topped Stilwell in a key NOAA contest at home Tuesday night while the Muldrow boys lost to the 4A seventh-ranked Indians.

Muldrow girls 53, Stilwell 49

The Lady Bulldogs (16-3 overall) fought off Stilwell’s fourth-period rally Tuesday night inside the Roger Sharp Activity Center to down the Lady Indians (11-7) in a key conference game.

Behind the scoring of Mason Anstine (4 points) and Caily Grinstead and Claire Tabor (3 each) the Lady Bulldogs led 12-8 after the first eight minutes.

In the second stanza Kennedi Wight (10 points) went 4-for-4 at the foul line and added three 2-point field goals to help Muldrow lead 24-18 at the half after adding (12-10) to its advantage.

Both teams registered six points in the low-scoring third period and Grinstead and Jensi Fields each hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the fourth frame Tabor (8 points), Wight and Grinstead (6 each) and Lani Israel (3-pointer) accounted for Muldrow’s points but Stilwell’s Snowda Watie registered 15 of her game-high 24 points to help the Lady Indians trim four points (27-23) off the deficit.

Wight recorded a team-high 18 points in the contest and also scoring for Muldrow were Grinstead (12), Tabor (11), Anstine (6) and Israel and Fields (3 each).

Trailing Watie in scoring for Stilwell were Kasia Thurber (9 points), Windi Holmes (8), Shannon Catron (5) and Kinley Johnson (3).

Katelynn Moore scored two points for the Lady Bulldogs last Friday in their home win over Sallisaw.

Stilwell boys 55, Muldrow 39 The host Bulldogs (117 overall) trailed 21-16 at the break after outscoring Stilwell (16-2) 12-9 in the second stanza but the Indians increased their advantage in each of the final two periods to register the conference win Tuesday night.

Muldrow’s Parker Sevenstar made a pair of 2-point field goals in the opening quarter but Stilwell went in front 124.

Andrew Luttrell and Trenden Collins registered seven and four points, respectively, in the second frame as the Bulldogs sliced three points off the deficit.

Collins registered eight of his team-high 16 points in the third period and four in the final eight minutes but the Indians added to their lead in the third (18-12) and fourth (16-11) quarters. Muldrow’s Reece Francis scored three points in the fourth.

Trailing Collins in scoring for Muldrow in the game were Luttrell (11 points), Sevenstar and Francis (4 each) and Drew Prewett and Teaguen Collins (2 apiece).

Scoring for Stilwell were Colima Ramirez (20 points), Cole Kimble (11), Codey Petree (10), Antonio Wolf (5), Tyrus Teehee (4), Keegan Hallmark (3) and Keller Hitcher (2).
