Lee Creek Estates, rezoning approved

By Lynn Adams Staff Writer

A preliminary plat for Lee Creek Estates, an addition to the city by INSU Inc., was approved Tuesday by the Sallisaw Planning Commission, and will come before Sallisaw City Commissioners for approval at their Monday meeting.

A preliminary plat for Lee Creek Estates, an addition to the city by INSU Inc., was approved Tuesday by the Sallisaw Planning Commission, and will come before Sallisaw City Commissioners for approval at their Monday meeting.

The property is located on South Buddy Spencer Avenue (East 1082 Road) east of Carl Albert State College. The intent is to construct multiple singlefamily dwellings.

A public hearing was also held to consider a request from Lee Creek Estates to rezone the property from agricultural (A-1) to residential (R-2), after which the commission gave its approval to the request.

An agenda item that had been awaiting approval since first presented in August 2022 was stricken from the agenda after the meeting was called to order.

A preliminary plat for Sallisaw Acres, an addition to the city of Sallisaw by Cherokee Nation Housing Authority, was seeking approval after six months on planning commission agendas. The plat was first presented to the planning commission for approval by J.R. Donelson on Aug. 2, 2022, but was rejected until several concerns related to drainage, easements and other aspects were addressed. Commission approval has been on hold since, and the agenda item was tabled at the January meeting when it was reported that there had been no progress on addressing the concerns previously cited.

The property is located west of J.T. Stites and south of Cherokee Avenue. The intent is for construction of two- and three-unit housing.

“Due to being tabled on four occasions, the item was discussed with the city attorney, and his recommendation was to strike the item,” explained Keith Miller, city building development director and exofficial member of the commission. “They may refile once all the legal easements and private agreements have been obtained.”

The planning commission’s next meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. March 7 in the Council Chambers, 113 N. Elm Street.
