Valentine’s Day season has been a busy one for Madison Hall, an assistant florist, who works with her best friend, Arionna, at Ivy Threads Flower Shop in Sallisaw.

“We’ve been busy for awhile now making snack packs and other gift items but we’re having a good time,” Hall said.

“I think the funniest thing is when a boyfriend comes in here and is clueless on what to buy for his girlfriend. We help them out with that but it’s always fun,” she said, smiling.

Hall, 19, said she has been working for the flower shop since it opened in 2020. Lately she and Arionna, whose mother owns the flower shop, have been preparing the snack and gift packs which have been popular gifts for Valentine’s Day.

“We put candy, drinks, chips and also create gift packs and just about anything else that needs to be done here. The gift packs have just about everything from stuffed animals, hair clips, pens and pads to just about any other items you can think of,” she said.

“I really enjoy working here. I think the best part about it is the interaction I have with the people. I know a lot of the people who come here. I’ve spent the majority of my time working here and getting to know the people in the community,” she said.

Hall graduated from Keota High School in 2021. She said she was home schooled for most of her school life. She met her husband, Tanner, through their church, Cartersville Holiness Church in Haskell, and the couple wed five months ago.

“We don’t have any children but I do love children. Before I got married and began working here, I spent a lot of time babysitting. I’ve just always enjoyed being around them,” she said.

Hall said she is not a native of Sequoyah County but was born in Poteau and her husband was born in California.

When she is not working at the store, she enjoys spending time at home with her cat, Jo. “Her actual name she came with is Jonessa but we call her ‘Jo,’” she said.

Hall said she also enjoys cleaning and cooking. “It’s weird but it is something I really enjoy doing. I love to cook and I love cleaning house. Sometimes a little too much according to my husband, no shoes past the carpet!” she said, laughing.

Hall said she and her husband have plans to have a garden this year.

“I’ve always wanted my own garden so I’m really looking forward to having one,” she said.

“I enjoy being here in Sallisaw. A lot of the people I know go to churches around here. The best part of being here is it’s a small town. There’s no hustle and bustle of crowds around here.”

On Valentine’s Day, Hall said she will be busy delivering roses, snack and gift packs and making other deliveries to all the schools in Sequoyah County and to other local destinations.

“It’ll be our busiest day here but I’m looking forward to it,” she said.

So does Hall make her own Valentine’s Day gift? “Well my husband has been here and he has bought from here but I’m also happy with a bouquet of roses from Walmart, too,” she said.
