Pinfeather Farm and Hatchery opens Feb. 17

A new retail and wholesale hatchery and poultry farm will open its doors to the public on Friday, Feb. 17, in Spiro. The new hatchery, Pinfeather Farm and Hatchery, will specialize in hatching and selling baby chicks, ducklings, turkey poults, guinea keets and goslings. The business has a hatching capacity of 43,000 eggs and is a member of the National Poultry Improvement Plan and is fully licensed by the Oklahoma State Department of Agriculture.

A new retail and wholesale hatchery and poultry farm will open its doors to the public on Friday, Feb. 17, in Spiro. The new hatchery, Pinfeather Farm and Hatchery, will specialize in hatching and selling baby chicks, ducklings, turkey poults, guinea keets and goslings. The business has a hatching capacity of 43,000 eggs and is a member of the National Poultry Improvement Plan and is fully licensed by the Oklahoma State Department of Agriculture.

The hatchery will open as a retail walk-in store but plans on expanding its mail-order sales area to the entire United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands, making shipments of poultry through the U.S. Post Office In addition to selling baby poultry, small incubators and various other poultry supplies will be offered.

As a service to the area, the hatchery also plans to provide Custom Hatching Services to individuals who wish to have their own eggs hatched. Interested patrons should call the hatchery for more details on the service at 405-683-1601. The new business is owned and operated by Michael Smith and his father, Dennis.

The hatchery’s website is www.pinfeatherfarmandhatchery. com. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. They are closed on Sunday.

As the hatchery grows, plans are to hire up to five employees to help with the daily operations.

Open House is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18. Several hundred baby poultry will be on display at that time.
