The Sallisaw FCCLA Chapter is a student organization that focuses on student leadership and interpersonal development through family and consumer sciences education. Friday, February 10th, Kali Crow, Kaya Bush, Officer Miriam Burmaster, Pearl Chang, and Kadence Martinez were among Mrs. Bennett’s eighth grade FCCLA members who hosted the Sallisaw Middle School’s Ready to Roll Assembly.

The Sallisaw Chapter competed in the Northeast Region STAR Events Feb. 9 in Miami. Sallisaw entered in four different categories where all four earned second place. Three of the four competitors earned scores advancing them to the state round. Adrianna Allen and Kloe Darcy worked as a team to present their Level 2 Focus on Children project. Lili Wood presented her original electronic children’s story project in Level 2 Children’s Literature. Jocelyn Coffman demonstrated her skills in Level 2 Child Care Teacher’s Aide. And Miriam Burmaster tested her knowledge in Level 1 New Member Facts. Jocelyn and Miriam plan to attend the State STAR Events in their categories. Sallisaw Chapter President, Hannah Brake, will compete in the Level 2 category of Fashion Construction which starts at State in Stillwater this spring.

The Sallisaw Chapter has completed multiple hours of community service and local engagement events for the 2022-23 school year, and it’s not over yet. Some of their favorites have been Halloween on Elm and Eastside Elementary Family Fun Night. This Valentine’s Day the FCCLA will be happy to provide each resident of Sequoyah Manor homemade Valentine cards.
