Loss to Porter ends Lady Pirates’ season Friday

The Gore Lady Pirates’ high school basketball season ended Friday night inside the Gore Event Center with a narrow 51-46 semifinal loss to Porter Consolidated in the Class A, Area III, District 8 tournament.

The Gore Lady Pirates’ high school basketball season ended Friday night inside the Gore Event Center with a narrow 51-46 semifinal loss to Porter Consolidated in the Class A, Area III, District 8 tournament.

Two-point field goals by Emily Daily and Kennedy Williams early in the opening period gave Gore (5-12 overall) a 4-0 advantage before Porter (9-12) answered with six straight points. Lindsey Pierce’s jumper with 2:30 remaining tied the score at 6-all.

At the start of the second quarter Williams’ inside basket put Gore in front but Porter led 18-8 almost midway through the period following a 12-0 run. Oaklei Thornton and Daily each hit a 3-pointer for Gore later in the stanza but Raylee Allison’s 11 points helped Porter lead 27-18 at the half.

In the final 40 seconds of the third quarter Thornton scored five points on a wing 3-pointer and a 2-point field goal to help Gore outscore (17-5) Porter and reclaim the lead (35-33). Pierce and Williams registered six points apiece for Gore in the frame.

The score was tied four times during the first six minutes of the final period and Gore took its final lead (42-41) of the contest at the 2:19 mark following Pierce’s two foul shots. Thirty-six seconds later Porter led 45-42 following Allison’s pair of free throws and 3-ponter and an inside basket by Allison with 47.5 seconds remaining gave the visitors a 50-43 advantage. Williams (4 points), Thornton (3-pointer) and Pierce (3 free throws) were Gore’s top scorers in the fourth and Allison (9 points) and Izzy Houston (8) led Porter in scoring.

Providing Gore’s points in the game were Pierce (13 points), Williams (12), Thornton (11), Daily (6) and Kima Wells and Rayleigh Moore (2).

Scoring for Porter were Allison (22 points), Houston (8), Lauren Lindell (7), Kassidy Pickard and Kelsi Kilgore (5 each), Abby Gourd (4) and Alanna Gonzales (2).

Porter lost 53-37 to Porum in the district title game Saturday night in gore.
