Gore, Vian Board of Education election results released

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

Gore Public Schools has declared a winner in the Tuesday Board of Education election, while Vian Public Schools will have an April 4 run-off between the top two candidates.

According to the Sequoyah County Election Board office, Gary Hoss Cunningham was the winner of Gore Public School’s Office No. 3 seat, taking 61.62% of the vote.

Cunningham received 228 votes compared to his contenders, Aaron Cearley and Phillip McGee, who each received 71 votes or 19.19% of the vote.

A run-off election will take place on April 4 between John Ford and Casey Sullivan for Vian Public School’s No. 3 Office seat because Ford did not receive at least 51% of the vote.

Ford received 233 or 47.75% of the vote, while Sullivan received 161 votes or 32.99%. Jess Buck Locust reportedly received 94 or 19.26% of the vote.

The County Election Board office reminds voters that these votes are considered unofficial until after 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. The results are subject to contest and recount, and are neither final nor official until they are certified by the appropriate election board.
