A Muldrow man is scheduled to appear before Associate District Judge Kyle Waters for a March 1 felony disposition docket after he was found to be in possession of items belonging to the Sallisaw Police Department.
Albert L. Cass III, 38, was formally charged on Jan. 18 in Sequoyah County District Court with a felony count of possession of firearm after former felony conviction and criminal misdemeanor counts of knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property, possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with license cancelled/ suspended/revoked. He received a $7,500 bond, according to court records.
Muldrow Police officer Richard Matthews reported on Jan. 10 that he initiated a traffic stop on a grey Honda with an expired license plate at Fargo and Sequoyah Streets.
The driver, Cass, told Matthews his driver’s license was suspended and he was placed under arrest. He told the officer there was a loaded pistol under the driver’s seat and the officer found and secured it before calling a wrecker to impound the vehicle.
While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, Matthews reported finding a pill bottle with a partially removed label containing hydrocodone, along with a rifle in the back seat. A binder with Sallisaw Police Department on it was also located that reportedly contained a Chrome notebook. In the trunk, the officer found a box containing several glass smoking devices, two police radios, a syringe, two sets of scales and a birth certificate.
Cass was transported to the Sallisaw Police Department where he told authorities the guns were his and said the police radios and binder came from a Sallisaw Police officer’s house after it burnt. He said he was able to obtain the items after remodeling the officer’s house, according to the probable cause affidavit.
He was then transported to the Sequoyah County Detention Center and booked in on his charges.
