Members learn about a happy heart

By Billie Anthony

Monday morning seven members weighed in. Annette had our best weight loss of 2.2 pounds. Great job, Annette! We had three members sign our Loser Lotto chart. The Two Bit Bowl name drawn was for Billie, but the quarters went to the treasury. Our Chapter Challenge this coming week will be to bring in one or two jokes. Leader Billie received from TOPS a Chapter Merit Certificate for being first place winner in chapter division Two for a loss of 11.6 pounds. Our program this week was on Heart-Healthy Habits. One of the habits was to Laugh it up!

I handed out the fourth week cannonball of information for the 28 Day Meal Planner.

The members are finding new recipes to try out. Our program had 10 suggestions for a happy heart. A healthy weight can help support a happy heart. The following tips will help keep your ticker humming strong for years to come. !. Stay positive! Not only is optimism good for the soul, it can also counteract stress. A more relaxed you has a lesser chance of developing heart disease. 2. Slow it down. Unplug from the digital world and remember old-fashioned diversions. Write a letter, read a book or sing a song you used to love. 3. Catch some z’s. According to the National Sleep Foundation, “People who don’t sleep enough are at higher risk for cardiovascular disease—regardless of age, weight, smoking and exercise habits. 4. Know your numbers. Talk to your healthcare provider about where your cholesterol and blood pressure should be and come up with a plan to keep them there. 5. Exercise regularly. Not only is being physically active a leading contributor to weight loss, it releases mood-boosting endorphins. 6. Drink lots of water. Keeping your body hydrated helps the heart more easily pump blood throughout the body. 7. Take your vitamins. Cardiovascular diseases have been linked to certain vitamin deficiencies. 8. Reduce salt. Too much sodium in your diet increases the risk of major health problems. Try a sprinkling of herbs and spices before reaching for that salt shaker. 9. Laugh it up! A joke or two can lower stress hormones and reduce inflammation in the arteries. 10. Go outside and get some fresh air. There’s nothing like taking a walk and breathing in the great outdoors.

EVERYONE is invited to visit. The first visit is FREE. It cost $49 a year to join TOPS Club INC. We meet at First Christian Church, 706 N Wheeler, Sallisaw, Monday at 10:30am-12pm. We begin weighing at 10:30am and the meeting starts at 11am and ends at 12. For more info, please call Billie at 918/4131383. We look forward to meeting you.
