Roland splits Senior Night games against Sequoyah

The Rangers defeated Sequoyah Tahlequah Monday on Senior Night inside the Ranger Dome after the Lady Rangers lost a squeaker to the Lady Indians.

The Rangers defeated Sequoyah Tahlequah Monday on Senior Night inside the Ranger Dome after the Lady Rangers lost a squeaker to the Lady Indians.

The Class 3A No. 14 Lady Indians (12-10) erased a third-quarter deficit to slip past the No. 17 Lady Rangers Monday night in the non-conference game.

Each team registered nine points in the first eight minutes and Addison Cole (4 points) and Haven Freeman (3-pointer) were Roland’s top scorers.

Cole (5 points) and Lilly Medicine Bird and Freeman (4 each) recorded the Lady Rangers’ points in the second frame and Roland led 22-20 at the half after outscoring the Lady Indians 13-11.

Roland took a 34-28 advantage to the final period after increasing (12-8) its lead in the third quarter. Jazlynn Tehee and Cole each made a 3-pointer in the third and Freeman also recorded three points.

Cole and Medicine Bird scored four and three points, respectively, in the final stanza for the Lady Rangers but Sequoyah erased (21-11) erased the deficit.

Scoring for Roland in the game were Cole (16 points), Freeman (12), Medicine Bird (10), Tehee (5) and Julianna Trujillo (2).

Sequoyah’s top three scorers were Annaston Brown (17 points) and Shailey Hair and Carey Folsum (10 each).

The Class 3A fourth-ranked Rangers’ Davohn Hall recorded a game-high 29 points Monday night as Roland (20-2 overall) downed Sequoyah (5-17) in the non-conference game on Senior Night.

In the first quarter Hall (8 points) hit two 3-pointers and Peyton Whisenant and Carson Wiggins added six and four points, respectively, as Roland went in front 19-12.

Hall (7 points) and Wiggins (6) were the Rangers’ top scorers in the second period but the Indians shaved five points (20-15) off the halftime deficit (34-32).

In the third frame Hall (8 points) made his fourth and fifth treys of the game and Whisenant added five points to help Roland outscore the Indians 17-16.

The Rangers added a point (16-15) to their lead in the final eight minutes and Wiggins (7 points) and Hall (6) were Roland’s leading scorers.

Trailing Davohn Hall in scoring for Roland in the game were Wiggins (19 points), Whisenant (13), Kyeree Hall (3), Ashton Peters (2) and Desean Cruse (1).

Sequoyah’s top three scorers were Talen Gann (19 points) and Kellan Holmes and Aidan Armontrout (12 each).
