Wolverines down Ironheads at Eufaula

Vian splits its non-conference doubleheader Tuesday night in McIntosh County as the Lady Wolverines and Wolverines ended their regular season.

Vian splits its non-conference doubleheader Tuesday night in McIntosh County as the Lady Wolverines and Wolverines ended their regular season.

Eufaula girls 41, Vian 40 Vian’s Avery Wright scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the fourth period Tuesday night in Eufaula but the Class 3A No. 18 Lady Ironheads (13-8) hung on to edge the Lady Wolverines (5-18) in non-conference play.

In the first quarter Rebel Simon hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Wolverines but Eufaula went in front 10-7.

Wright totaled four points in the second frame as Vian trimmed a point (7-6) off the deficit to trail 1614 at the intermission.

The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 25-all after the Lady Wolverines erased (11-9) the deficit in the third period. Simon made her second trey of the game in the stanza.

In the final eight minutes Wright made 6-of-9 foul shots, a 3-pointer and a 2-point field goal but Eufaula outscored Vian 16-15.

Trailing Wright in scoring for Vian in the contest were Simon (7 points), Maci Smith, Halli Russell and Kiah Richardson (4 each) and Skyelar Locust and Rayleigh Terrill (2 apiece).

Providing Eufaula’s points were Kambry Williams (11 points), Madison Ballard (7), Kate Pippenger and Jordas McClish (6 each), Jadence Efurd (4), Avery Williams (3) and Johna Bumgarner and Ariel Greenlee (2).

Vian boys 48, Eufaula 45 The Wolverines (12-8 overall) outscored the Ironheads (8-12) in the first and third periods Thursday night on the road as Vian defeated Eufaula in the non-conference game.

Behind the scoring of Desean Mays (5 points), Masyn Wright (3 points) and Michael Polecat (3-pointer) the Wolverines jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the opening stanza.

Diego Ramos, Yonsi Grass and Wright each hit a 3-pointer for Vian in the second quarter but Eufaula trimmed six points (15-9) off the deficit to trail 26-24 at the break.

In the third frame Grass made two treys and Ramos added a pair of 2-point field goals to help Vian increase (16-11) its advantage. T h e Wolverines’ K ’ d e n Richardson went 4-for- 4 at the foul line in the fourth stanza as the Ironheads outscored Vian 10-6.

Scoring for Vian in the contest were Grass (11 points), Wright (10), Ramos (9), Richardson (8), Mays (7) and Polecat (3).

Registering points for Eufaula were Talon Weaver (10 points), Riley Morgan (8), Mozes Coachman and Landon Mills (7 each), Jacob Parish (6), Jentry James (5) and Keaton Parish (2).
