Howard takes Oath, Pena’s resignation accepted

Charles A. Howard took the Oath of Office and Loyalty Oath and the school board was reorganized during the Roland Board of Education’s monthly meeting on Feb. 15.

Charles A. Howard took the Oath of Office and Loyalty Oath and the school board was reorganized during the Roland Board of Education’s monthly meeting on Feb. 15.

The board members also accepted the resignation of Principal Angie Pena, according to meeting minutes.

Howard then presented a rotation schedule for the annual reorganization of the board, which is as follows: Kevin Flurry, president; Jerry Brooks, vice president; Howard, clerk; Ronnie Hemphill, deputy clerk; and Utah Everett, member.

Following an executive session, the board reconvened and Hemphill made a motion to renew Keli Harrell’s contract as high school principal with all other members voting pro. The board also voted to renew contracts for Jeffery Brant, middle school principal, and Blake Rainwater, elementary principal.

Hires also included Tammy Jackson as custodian, Elizabeth Coleman for Child Nutrition, and Kathy Cain for the elementary.

Also given a green light were the sale/ disposal of surplus items (as listed) and disciplinary action for misuse of school bathrooms/changing facilities policy.

Regarding changes to accounts at Firstar Bank, Angie Goode and Lori Wiggins were authorized as signers for the General Fund and Activity Fund for any account/school transactions needed, while Randy Martin was deleted. During the administrator’s report, it was announced OSSBA has new and incumbent board member training available April 21 and 22, ICTC Sallisaw campus has training available for free from April through May, and that Roland Schools would be hosting the District Tournament Feb. 18 and the Regional Tournament Feb. 23 – 25.

In financial matters, the board approved: General Fund Encumbrances PO#547-627 for $454,900.73 for Jan 4 to Jan. 24, 2023; Building Fund #70-80 for $4,819.01; Co-op Fund #49-56 for $975.20; General Fund #1413-1487 for $442,385.23$51,995.57=$390,389.66; PO#612 Game Time Productions ck#1471 voided $51,995.57; and General Fund Payroll #1488-1650 for $597,635.02.

Items approved for the 2023-24 school year included: • School calendar

• Counting hours instead of days for calculating purposes for the school calendar

• Mentor Teacher Committee

• Sale/disposal of surplus items
