Sallisaw loses district championship games

FORT GIBSON – The Sallisaw Black Diamonds lost their Class 4A district championship game to Fort Gibson, 6130, at Ft. Gibson, and the Lady Diamonds lost their district championship game to 15th-ranked Fort Gibson, 49-22. Both games were played Friday.

FORT GIBSON – The Sallisaw Black Diamonds lost their Class 4A district championship game to Fort Gibson, 6130, at Ft. Gibson, and the Lady Diamonds lost their district championship game to 15th-ranked Fort Gibson, 49-22. Both games were played Friday.

Fort Gibson 61, Sallisaw 30

Sallisaw (10-12) started slowly in the first quarter, scoring only three points as an answer to Fort Gibson’s 12 in the same period. The second stanza was more of the same, with the Tigers outscoring the Black Diamonds 17-6 for alopsided 29-9 count at halftime.

Sallisaw continued to struggle in the third period, as Fort Gibson (7-17) increased its lead to 44-19 going into the last quarter.

Sallisaw scored 11 points in the fourth frame, but that wasn’t nearly enough, closing the season with the 61-30 setback.

Blane Scott was Fort Gibson’s top scorer with 15 points, and Jackson Obregon led Sallisaw with six points.

Fort Gibson 49, Sallisaw 22

The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds had issues getting shots to go in the first quarter against Fort Gibson, and it put them behind the Lady Tigers, 12-5.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t shake it in the second stanza, and it was another quarter where Fort Gibson (195) outscored Sallisaw, deepening the divide at 29-10 by intermission.

The Lady Diamonds (13-9) were able to slow the Lady Tigers a bit in the third period, but Fort Gibson still increased its cushion in the third period to 39-18.

Sallisaw faced a monumental climb in the fourth frame, a challenge it wasn’t able to overcome, as the Lady Tigers cruised to the 49-22 final.

Addy Whiteley paced Fort Gibson with 12 points, whileAddyson Gream was Sallisaw’s top scorer with eight points.
