By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

The Vian Board of Education rehired several staff and employees for the 2023-34 school year during its regular monthly meeting on Feb. 14, while also approving several agreements and other items on the agenda.

The Vian Board of Education rehired several staff and employees for the 2023-34 school year during its regular monthly meeting on Feb. 14, while also approving several agreements and other items on the agenda.

After reconvening from an executive session, the board voted to re-employ administrative staff, central office staff and district directors which included, Jennifer Ecker – Asst. Vian Elementary Principal, Kathy Wingo – Vian Elementary Principal, Marilyn Oliver – Vian Middle School Principal, John Brockman– Vian High School Principal, Erica King–Treasurer/ Human Resources Officer/Payroll Coordinator, Shannon Pack–Encumbrance Clerk/Federal Claims, Christie Mendenhall–Activity Account Custodian/ Superintendent’s Secretary, Kristy Keck–Child Nutrition Director, James Ross–Maintenance Director, and Abby Glass–Transportation Director.

Superintendent Victor Salcedo spoke on the high school project and a staff survey during his report, and the board voted to approve three policies as presented.

The school board also voted to adopt the OSSBA Superintendent Evaluation but tabled taking possible action to approve an Emergency Operational Plan until the next meeting.

The board approved annual agreements for the 2023-24 school year with Interquest and Interquest Detection Canines, Ruth Kelley and OKTLE, according to meeting minutes, along with a Cherokee Nation Facility Agreement.

Activity Fund fundraisers were approved for the Vian Choir to host a carwash at Armstrong Bank one weekend in March and one in April, to help pay for their camp dues. They were also given the green light to sell suckers the last two weeks of February to help with camp costs.

In Activity Fund transfers, $1,100 was approved from Athletics to Football because the refs were paid out of the Football account, rather than Athletics.

The following encumbrances were approved for #516-541 and changes for a net increase of $39,838.47 within the 2022-23 General Funds, and no changes within the 2022-23 Building Fund or Sinking Fund.
