5 Gore seniors sign letters of intent to 3 colleges

By Jim Cameron Sports Writer

Five Gore seniors signed letters of intent to three colleges Tuesday morning inside the Gore Event Center.

Five Gore seniors signed letters of intent to three colleges Tuesday inside the Gore Event Center.

Gore High School seniors Dayne Perryman and Blane Barnes participate in outdoor education, which is made up of trap shooting and archery contests in coordination with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife and Connors State College.

Connors’ coach Sierra Walker recruited Perryman and Barnes.

“These are just good kids and they are bird hunters, which helps them succeed,” Gore outdoors education head coach Martin Lincoln said about his charges.

“They are both two- sport letterers and play baseball and are in outdoor education, which can be a challenge, because they can’t be in both places at the same time.

“They are both a class act, and have had to work hard on and off the field to deserve this opportunity. I am proud of the way they represent Gore and the program.”

In addition, three Gore football players signed letters of intent to continue their education and play football at the next level, which is a special achievement. Garrett Douthit will attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah in the fall, while Gabe and Gunner Dozier are going to Northwestern State University in Alva.

“I’m proud of these three and the effort they’ve put in to achieve their goal of playing at the next level,” Gore head coach Brandon Tyler said of his standout athletes who were part of the Pirates’ state runner-up team this year. “On and off the field they have put in the work needed to get these schools’ attention and follow through with all the things that they had to do to get it done.”

With the number of high school athletes that move on to play varsity sports at the college level near the 7% mark, it is not an easy accomplishment. Gabe Dozier and Douthit both earned All-State honors in football, and Gunner Dozier was awarded an all-star by class honor this season.
