MULDROW HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL

Muldrow’s Trenden Collins scored 11 of his game-high 27 points in the final period of Friday’s regional consolation semifinal game at Verdigris but the Bulldogs’ rally fell short as the Hornets hung on to down Muldrow 59-53.

The Bulldogs (15-9 overall) lost at Stilwell in their regional opener Thursday (see separate story).

Vinita (18-9) led 16-10 at the end of the opening period and 28-21 at the half after adding a point (1211) to its advantage in the second stanza.

The Hornets took a 44-28 lead to the fourth frame after outscoring the Bulldogs 16-7 in the third quarter.

Behind the scoring of Collins and Andrew Luttrell and Jaxson Anstine (5 points apiece) the Bulldogs trimmed 10 points (25-15) off the deficit in the final eight minutes.

Trailing Collins in scoring for Muldrow in the game were Parker Sevenstar (9 points), Luttrell and Anstine (5 each), Trenton Irvan (4), Kenoy Releford (2) and Teaguen Collins (1).
