Muldrow boys and girls lose on the road to Stilwell Thursday

STILWELL – Muldrow is glad there are second chances because both the boys and the girls basketball teams needed a mulligan after stumbling in Class 4A regional semifinal play Thursday.
The Muldrow girls were edged out by Stilwell down the stretch, 38-34, while the Muldrow boys struggled from the start, losing 63-35 to the seventhranked Indians.

The Lady Bulldogs started the contest strong and outscored the Lady Indians in the opening quarter for an 11-5 advantage, with four starters making buckets to spread out the Stilwell defense early.
The two teams played to an 8-8 stalemate in the second stanza for a 19-13 score at intermission.
But Stilwell caught fire in the third period, with Snowda Watie making eight of the Lady Indians’ 17 points to forge a 30-27 lead.
Stilwell improved its tenuous lead by outpacing the Lady Bulldogs in the final frame. Muldrow pulled to within two points at 36-34 with 33 seconds remaining, but Stilwell’s defense held for the rest of the game, while the Lady Indians’ offense converted a final basket to seal the game.
The top scorer for Muldrow was Jensi Fields with nine points, while Watie took game honors with 11 points.

The seventh-ranked Stilwell Indians came out of the gates strong and didn’t look back, outscoring Muldrow 15-7 in the first quarter then 10-7 in the second stanza for a 25-14 gap by halftime.
The Indians poured it on in the third period, outdistancing the Bulldogs 21-8 with inside play that was nearly impossible to stop, while Muldrow’s shots refused to go in.
In the final frame it was more of the same, with Stilwell outpacing Muldrow for the lopsided verdict.
Stilwell’s Colima Ramirez was the game’s top scorer with 19 points, while Muldrow was led by Trenden Collins with 14 points.
