HIGH SCHOOL POWERLIFTING

Gore wins its second Class A powerlifting state title

Webbers Falls finishes third at Class B state meet

By Lea Lessley Sports Writer

Gore’s high school powerlifting team won its second straight Class A powerlifting state championship Saturday at El Reno High School while Webbers Falls placed third in the Class B state meet.

Muldrow competed in the Class 3A state meet Friday at El Reno.

GORE

The Pirates’ Tyler Lane (145-pound weight division) and Alex Hallum (168) medaled at the state meet after each of the seniors posted second-place finishes.

Gore senior Nick Wolf (275) placed seventh at the state meet.

Also competing at the Class A state meet for the Pirates were seniors Beau Brown (123), Gunner Dozier and Mike McAlister (198) and junior Hunter McGee (157). A knee injury prevented Gore senior Garrett Douthit (heavyweight) from competing at the meet.

“It was pretty good,” Gore head coach Brandon Tyler said about his team winning their second straight state title. “We kind of had to battle some adversity obviously with Garrett not getting to lift. It took some points away from us but still yet the kids battled through it and were able to win another championship.”

The Pirates totaled 48 points to win the state championship and Wyandotte (36) was second in the team standings. Lane scored 26 of Gore’s points, Hallum registered 18 and Wolf had four.

WEBBERS FALLS

Juniors Gunner Carey (123-pound weight division) and Maddux Shelby (181)a finished second and fourth, respectively, in the Class B state meet for the Warriors.

Carey scored 16 points for the Warriors and Shelby registered 13.

Sophomore David Barnes (heavyweight) also competed at the state meet for Webbers Falls.

Wetumka (54 points) won the Class B state title and Dewar (43) was runner-up.

MULDROW

Senior Hayden Boyett (heavyweight division) placed fourth in the Class 3A powerlifting state meet Friday at El Reno.

Boyett scored nine points for the Bulldogs. Senior David Frias (123-pound weight division) also competed in the 3A state meet for Muldrow.
