Brushy School Superintendent Jared Armer said someone wrote graffiti on the school’s storm shelter and the incident is currently under investigation.
Armer, who has served as superintendent of the school for the past two years, said he was uncertain when the incident took place but it was discovered this past weekend and reported to the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office.
“We figure it happened during spring break. We’re still trying to determine when it happened and who is responsible,” Armer said.
Armer said the sign “Welcome to tweekers” was painted on the storm shelter and was not discovered until over the weekend.
“We don’t know exactly when someone wrote that on the building but we’ve already painted over it because we did not want the students to see it,” he said on Monday.
“We’re currently looking at the video footage but it takes a little while to go through hours of it,” Armer said.
Armer said he does not believe the act came from a juvenile. He said from all indications it may be an adult. Armer said graffiti was also reportedly seen at signs and other places in the Brushy community.
Sequoyah County Undersheriff Charles House said Monday at the Sequoyah County Commissioners meeting the sheriff ’s office is seek- ing information about any other graffiti that might have taken place recently from any other schools in Sequoyah County.
According to Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane, graffiti was also reported in Sallisaw. Lane did not say where the graffiti was reported to have been spotted.
