MULDROW SCHOOL BOARD

Coatney promoted to head football coach, principal contracts renewed

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

Muldrow Public School’s Board of Education met on March 13 where they promoted defensive coordinator and assistant coach Logan Coatney to head football coach for the 2023-24 school year. Coatney replaces former head football coach Brandon Ellis, who has accepted a coaching position at Gore Public Schools.

Members of the Muldrow Public Schools Board of Education met on March 13 where they promoted defensive coordinator and assistant coach Logan Coatney to head football coach for the 2023-24 school year. Coatney replaces former head football coach Brandon Ellis, who has accepted a coaching position at Gore Public Schools.

Board member Colby Wilson made a motion to approve promoting Coatney, followed by a second from Dowen Green, with all other board members voting yes.

“I am extremely excited for this opportunity and look forward to continuing to build upon the culture and success that we’ve had,” Coatney said. “I believe Muldrow is a community that deeply desires high school football and deserves the excitement that Friday nights bring. We are ready to work.”

Coatney thanked Superintendent Clifta Fugett and the administration for believing in him and allowing him this opportunity.

Regarding the reemployment of school principals for the 2023-24 school year, the board voted to renew contracts for Joe Phillips, elementary; John Black, middle school; and Janelle Tyler, high school.

Ashton Nichols was approved as a substitute teacher for the 2022-23 school year, and resignations were received from Brandon Ellis, Glenda Fouts, Mary Peevy, Shelly Shell and Darryl Tyler.

During her report, Fugett reviewed legislative changes, discussed March and April calendars, the senior trip to Branson, Mo., on May 12, board member training, and the National School Board Convention.

The board members also voted to allow Fugett to open a money manager account with Armstrong Bank, and to allow Kim Chandler to be listed as the company contact on the account to manage transactions.

Fugett also conducted a public hearing to allow public input into the education program offered with Title VI Indian Education monies. The board then approved the District Indian Policies and Procedures as presented and as they apply to Title VI Indian Education.

The board unanimously approved the 2022-23 audit contract and engagement letter with auditing firm Bledsoe, Hewett & Gullekson, along with the renewal contract with Municipal Accounting Systems as the software provider for the financial and student accounting programs for the 2023-24 school year.

Regarding 2022-23 encumbrances, the following were approved by the board: General Fund #466-530 for $118,941.05; Coop Fund #2-3 for $3,967.41; Building Fund #15 for $38,800; and General Fund Payroll #50196-50198 for $549.02.
