Harkins joins police force, Shaw appointed to VFD

Both agencies’ reports for the previous month were also accepted during the meeting.
A discussion was held on excessive speeds by law enforcement officers in town. The trustees reportedly discussed various law enforcement officers that have exceeded the speed limit in town limits, but no actions were taken or voted on.
The trustees approved the purchase of $2,500 in fireworks for the July 1, 2023, annual Vian Fireworks Extravaganza, along with a monitoring program request from the Oklahoma Conservation Commission for Vian Creek on town-owned property.
Suzanne Sullivan addressed the board about sending out bids for the resurfacing and repair of asphalt on the walking trail and parking lot at City Lake, with the trustees unanimously agreeing to do so.
They also unanimously voted to advertise for bid surplus real property known as Vian Town Hall and the Vian Police Department, and approved property replacement value insurance through OMAG.
The trustees also voted to conduct spring clean up days, April 18 and 19, for Town of Vian/ VPWA residential customers. Participants will be able to put out unwanted items (with some exceptions) with their regular trash during those days, and the items will be picked up for disposal.
