The Muldrow Board of Education met on April 10 for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting where they voted to enter into a contract agreement with an architectural firm to oversee upgrades to the school’s show barn, which will be christened as the Don Morton Animal Science Center on April 20.

According to an announcement issued by Muldrow School Superintendent Clifta Fugett, the school will formally name the Muldrow School Show Barn as the Don Morton Animal Science Center during a ceremony scheduled for noon on April 20.

Fugett said Morton served as leader of the school’s agriculture department from 1951 until he retired in May 1984.

“Mr. Morton’s contribution to Muldrow School’s agriculture department is the foundation to a truly outstanding program at Muldrow School. Please join us to honor Mr. Morton,” Fugett said.

The board voted to enter into a contract agreement with Michael Riley Architecture, PLLC to oversee the upgrades to the facility.

Under consent agenda items, resignations were received from Billy Barber, Dwight Campbell and Jana Floyd, while Rhonda Jeremiah, Bethaney Patterson, Brookelyn Shepard and Haelee Trammell were all approved as substitutes for the 2022-23 school year.

During the superintendent’s report, Fugett reviewed April and May calendars, Valedictorians and Salutatorians for the 2022-23 school year, discussed the Legislative Review, the financial disclosure forms, which are required by law to be filed by May 15 were given to the board members, signed and returned to the board clerk, and reviewed the district’s dropout report.

The board members voted to go into executive session at 6:25 p.m. and reconvened at 6:40 p.m.

Temporary contracts of employment were then approved for Zachary Thibodeaux as a custodian for the 2022-23 school year, Keith Qualls as a maintenance employee for June 2023, and Caleb Armer as a middle school teacher for the 2023-24 school year.
