Join other children and adults around the world in celebrating the benefits of walking and bicycling by participating in the Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day at Webbers Falls on May 9
Walk, Bike & Roll to School began in 1997 as a one-day event. Today, thousands of schools across America, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, participate. Over time, the celebration has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school.
Webbers Falls Public School will participate in the event on May 9, as follows:
7:15 to 7:30 a.m. – Parents will drop students off at Webbers Falls City Park on the river. Volunteers will be directing traffic.
7:35 a.m. – Biking, walking and rolling to school begins. Webbers Falls police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be assisting to ensure safety.
The day is an annual event that promotes walking, bicycling and rolling for several reasons:
• Physical Activity
• Teaching safe pedestrian and bicycling skills to children
• Awareness of how walkable and bikable a community is, and where improvements can be made
• Concern for the environment
• Reducing traffic congestion, pollution and speed near schools
• Sharing time with community leaders, parents and children
The event is sponsored by the Muskogee County Health Department, Cherokee Nation Public Health, OSU Extension, Muskogee County MCT transit, TSET Healthy Living Program, Youth Volunteer Corps of Muskogee, ShapeYourFutureOK.com and the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline.
Parents and guardians are welcome to attend.
