Car, pedal bike collision results in DUI, other charges

By Amie Cato-Remer Editor

A Muldrow woman is charged with felony counts of child endangerment by driving under the influence (DUI) and DUI with BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of .08 or more - great bodily injury - after she was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana following a collision with a pedal bike last month.

A Muldrow woman is charged with felony counts of child endangerment by driving under the influence (DUI) and DUI with BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of .08 or more — great bodily injury — after she was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana following a collision with a pedal bike last month.

Jessica A. Brewer aka Nofire, 36, was formally charged in Sequoyah County District Court on April 18 and received an $8,000 bond. She is now scheduled to appear before Associate District Judge Kyle Waters for a May 17 arraignment, according to court records.

Just after 9 p.m. on April 10, OHP Trooper Jordan Galvan reported he was dispatched to a car versus pedal bicycle collision in Muldrow on Treat Road and Wilson Rock Road. Court documents state Brewer caused the accident because she was incapable of safely driving a motor vehicle, which caused Patrick Coker of Muldrow, to suffer hip injuries that will reportedly require several surgeries.

The trooper asked Brewer, who was driving a 2008 Santa Fe with minor children inside, for a voluntary blood draw to which she did comply. Brewer reportedly admitted to using methamphetamine earlier in the day and said it would probably show up, according to the probable cause affidavit in the case.

The trooper asked if she’d do standard field sobriety tests but she didn’t want to, although she did agree to a blood test. She was taken to Northeastern Health System Sequoyah in Sallisaw where the test was conducted, and then placed under arrest for driving under the influence of illegal drugs.

District Attorney Jack Thorp said the child endangerment by DUI is punishable by imprisonment for up to four years and/or a fine of $5,000, while the DUI – great bodily injury charge is punishable by a fine of up to $5,000 and imprisonment for one to five years.
