Rangers fall to Wampus Cats in bi-district play

Roland’s high school baseball season ended Thursday at Atoka with two losses in its Class 3A bi-district tournament.

Roland’s high school baseball season ended Thursday at Atoka with two losses in its Class 3A bi-district tournament.

Atoka 8, Roland 0 (Game 2)

Atoka (22-10 overall) scored two runs apiece in the first, second and third innings Thursday in the second game of the bi-district tournament as the Wampus Cats went on to down the Rangers (6-20) and claim the bi-district title.

The Wampus Cats also recorded a run in the third and their final run in the bottom of the fifth ended the contest.

Carson Wiggins (double) and Colton Peters registered a hit apiece for the Rangers and Paden Pitts reached base on a walk.

Atoka produced eight hits in the game.

Roland starting pitcher Ashton Peters (4.1 innings) struck out six and walked two while giving up eight hits and three earned runs.

The Rangers committed four errors in the game and Atoka had none.

Atoka 13, Roland 0 (Game 1)

Atoka added four runs to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning before recording its final seven runs in the fourth as the host Wampus Cats prevailed in the four-inning contest.

Ashton Peters and Michael Taylor had a hit apiece for the Rangers in the game and the Wampus Cats collected five hits while taking advantage of four Roland errors. Carson Wiggins reached base on a walk.

Wiggins (3.1 innings), Roland’s starting pitcher, struck out eight and walked six while giving up five hits and eight earned runs and in relief Avery Moya (0.2) struck out one and walked none while allowing no hits and no earned runs.

Atoka committed one error in the game.
