Sallisaw Animal Control Officer Vickie Wyman said Daphne, Bryce, Rae, Willie, Spot, Harley and Jed now all have new homes.
Your TIMES published the Pet Page feature each week as a community service, hoping these unwanted pets would find loving homes, and as part of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, which is commemorated each year on April 30.
According to the National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day mission statement, shelters require year-round assistance and adoption is a big part of the process. Since animals come in on a daily basis, shelters must work to ensure the animal’s health and well-being so they can be adopted to their forever home.
If you can’t adopt, the day also encourages others to visit a shelter and consider helping in other ways. You can give your time by volunteering; which will help the shelter by providing the animals with exercise, companionship and socialization.
“But unfortunately, several others dogs took their place after these found homes,” Wyman said.
The animal shelter reportedly had three more unwanted dogs by Tuesday morning.
According to the ASPCA, about 4.1 million cats and dogs are adopted from shelters each year.
Your TIMES will continue to feature unwanted pets from the Sallisaw Animal Care Facility each week in our Friday issue.
