Two Florida men are currently being held without bond in the Sequoyah County Detention Center after Sallisaw Police officers struck them head-on in their police unit to end a high-speed pursuit during Saturday’s Diamond Daze.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Joa’n Alvarez reported Carlton Rucker, 37, of Plantation, was fleeing police in a 2020 Hyundai northbound on Oak Street and just south of Creek Ave. around 1:21 p.m. when his vehicle met up with police.

Sallisaw Police Capt. John Weber made the decision to stop the fleeing vehicle by positioning his police unit into the path of the Hyundai, causing it to strike him and his passenger, Officer Wesley McGuirt, ending the pursuit.

Rucker was reportedly uninjured along with one of his passengers, Courtney Walker, 35, of Dania Beach. But another passenger, Shawn Hyman, 34, also of Florida, was transported by First Flight to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, where he was admitted in stable condition with leg injuries.

Weber suffered a broken wrist in the crash, while McGuirt suffered cuts and bruises.

According to court documents, Rucker is facing charges in Sequoyah County District Court of aggravated assault and battery on a police officer, felony eluding causing great bodily harm, transporting open container of liquor, possession of medical marijuana without a license, possession of paraphernalia, receive, possess or conceal stolen property, bringing stolen property into state, conspiracy to commit felony, and possession of burglar implements.

Walker is facing similar charges of possession of medical marijuana without a license, possession of paraphernalia, transporting open container of liquor, receive, possess or conceal stolen property, bringing stolen property into state, conspiracy to commit felony, and possession of burglar implements.

Hyman is expected to be charged upon release from the hospital.

Rucker and Walker are scheduled to appear for an arraignment in Sequoyah County District Court at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
